July 19, 2012 by Jenn

In May, we went to the 9th Annual Hungry for Life gala dinner, dance, silent and live auction to benefit the people of Haiti.  Heidi’s Restaurant catered dinner and the evening featured entertainer and auctioneer Gery Schubert and dancing to live music by Billy Jive and the Funktastic Five followed to wrap up the evening.

Kinsmen Home & Recreation Show 2012

July 18, 2012 by Jenn

Catching up again . . . thank goodness for summer “break”!  I am desperately trying to catch up to speed in the next couple of days, so bear with the multiple posts!

In May, we attended the Kinsman Home and Recreation Show to show off our cupcake and cake selections.   Kristy was along to help up in her usual fabulous way and we manned the booth for 3 days!

Cranbrook Farmer’s Market Special Spring Market

July 17, 2012 by Jenn
It is so fabulous to be a part of the “togetherness” that comes from being part of the Cranbrook Farmer’s Market again this summer . . . and back tracking a little bit, (life is busy!) we attended an early Spring Market in Cranbrook back in May.  The neat thing about this market, was that it had a group of different vendors from the ones that are regular ones during the summer.

Paul and I hold new positions on the Board of Executives and it has given us a new appreciation for how much works it takes to put on an event such as this!  Erna, the Market Manager, is truly an amazing woman, and she keeps everyone in check and tends to all details, no matter how small.  Thank you, thank you Erna for all of the work that you do!

There were some new vendors trying out Cranbrook (and of course we were trying them out to!)  Brezel Bakery (pictured below) is a new addition, and he brougth his own wood fired oven to bake bread in for eager market goers.

Downtown Cranbrook Fire

May 1, 2012 by Jenn
Cranbrook Downtown Fire

Cranbrook Downtown Fire

Two people were rescued by police as a fire burned through one of Cranbrook’s historic downtown building. The police managed to wake the two sleeping residents of building, who then had to climb to the roof of a neighbouring building to be rescued by firefighters.

No one was injured in the fire, but the two residents of the building lost their home and four businesses that resided in the building were also completely lost. To adjacent building and businesses, “The Choice” and “Cranbrook Photo” also had some damage due to the fire.

Hopefully the re-build is a quick process as a huge gap has been left in Cranbrook’s main street.  I’m sure the business’s will be back better than ever soon!

New Years 2012- Goals and Resolutions

January 5, 2012 by Jenn

Last year (2011), I made resolutions and goals for the very first time!  It’s time to review, and to make new ones . . . maybe?

2011 Check In – Resolutions – How did I do?

1.  Learn how to budget . . . stick to in . . . and stop spending money on unnecessary things.  I’m definitely better at this than I used to be, I would have to say!  Not perfect, as the draw of going to Winners on a Friday night is sometimes to strong to resist, but I came leaps and bounds compared to where I used to be.  Like, now, I actually have money in my back account!  That’s what it’s there for I’m learning!

2. I’m giving up magazines.  I find that they used to be an enjoyable event, to what is now a stressful occurrence.  When I look at the pile that just seems to grow and grow and grow, I get stressed out.  I guess I’m spending my time doing different activities these days . . . like blogging!!  I have DEFINITELY succeeded at this resolution! I did not spend unnecessary time, or money reading magazines . . . and truthfully, I didn’t really miss them!  I never would have thought that I wouldn’t miss them, as I lived and breathed for the new issue of my favourites to come out.

Fortunate Friday-Top 5 Cake Decorating Tools

December 16, 2011 by Jenn

I haven’t done a Fortunate Friday post in quite some time and since I’m fully immersed up to my elbows in the cake world lately, I thought I would make my Fortunate Friday about all of the CAKE DECORATING TOOLS that I find helpful. . . and of course, we can’t forget the cupcakes!

Before I jump into the Cake Decorating Tools that make caking easier, I HAVE to thank Paul for the early Christmas present!  You might have noticed the blog got a makeover!  Isn’t it pretty!?  I love it . . . thanks P!  I’m so fortunate to have him <3

5 Cake Decorating Tools

1. Edible Ink Printer–  This has been a tool that has come in extremely helpful.  It allows the cake decorator to print pretty much ANY image onto edible paper, and place it on top of a cake or even cupcakes!

We currently use a Cannon MP640 to do our edible prints.  What’s important to remember is to make sure that you do not ever put non-edible ink into the machine.  The first ink that runs through the machine, must be edible ink.

Edible Inks are a specially formulated food coloring mixture for printing onto icing sheets. The colors are matched with regular inks, then modified to hold their coloring better on the icing sheets.

We get our edible ink and edible paper from Icing Images.

We have a step by step guide for you to watch on YouTube as well.  Check it out here.
