Heart Shaped Cupcakes for Valentine’s Day – Video

January 20, 2012 by Jenn

I saw this idea on Pinterest, which is slowly taking over the world!!!  Hahaha . . . it might not be taking over the world, but it’s surely taking over my spare time, and what little I have of it!  If you haven’t seen it yet (where have you been) make sure you go and request an invite (makes it seem like an exclusive club or something) and try it out!  It has tons of ideas for everything!  I use it for kindergarten ideas, along with cakes, cupcakes, and recipes galore!

All you need for this simple activity are some glass marbles, cupcake liners, and cupcake batter!

Heart Shaped Cupcakes

This idea seemed so simple, that I didn’t think there was any way that it would actually work!

A marble, pushed in beside the cupcake liner?  How could that work?

Well, it works ONLY if you half fill your liners.

In my practice batch (which I need to do to make sure I don’t screw up on camera!  Cuz, I NEVER do that 😉 ) I put my usual amount of batter in, 3/4 full, and they came out like poorly shaped bumpy, roundish cupcakes!  The marbles were covered in batter, which was not nice to clean!

SOLUTION- only fill the liners HALF full!  It makes them turn out perfectly heart shaped and once you have iced the cupcakes, you have a delightful little heart shaped cupcake!

We have recieved many positive comments on this video and idea!  I don’t claim it to be mine, but I’m sure glad I found it! I will be honest and tell you that I cheated and used a b0x mix to make this version. . . but obviously, you can use a recipe from scratch (which I will do when the orders come in), or stick with the fail proof box version!

To decorate the cupcakes, I used a star tip with pink buttercream in the shape of a heart.  I found piping a heart shape on top helped to accentuate the shape that I wanted it to be.  I used a round tip (#12) to fill in the other version of the cupcakes.  On top of these ones, I put simple white dragee’s.

Simple, yet cute.

What is YOUR favourite Valentine’s treat to make?
