How to Make a Marshmallow Shooter
What could be more fun than a marshmallow shooter?!? Getting to use POWER TOOLS to make the marshmallow shooter!
This was a super fun project to work together with Colin of WoodWork Web on. I haven’t been in a real woodworking shop in a long time. I used to be quite the avid woodworker in my high school and college years, but without the access to a wood shop for the last 15 years, I was a little rusty!
The shooter is pretty simple if you have access to some basic woodworking tools. If you don’t, Colin gave a great suggestion for a way to make one without having to have any of the wood tools. Instead of cutting out a complicated gun stock, you can use a simple 1″x1″ piece of wood to attach the shooter portion of the gun to. I would imagine you wouldn’t even need that though if you were comfortable enough just holding the PVC portion.
My favourite part of this entire video shoot was when we were finishing up the video, and we were to both shoot the marshmallows at the camera. Instead of putting the marshmallows into the shooter, Colin put them in his mouth and ate them, without even realizing what he was doing! You can see that blooper at the end of the video. I laughed so hard at him!
We also filmed a collab over on Colin’s YouTube channel, WoodWorkWeb. I spend hours on Pinterest, as you might imagine, and I continually see pallet projects in the DYI sections. Colin was able to show me how to make a pallet bookcase to store my cookbooks in, AND it is even the perfect size for wine bottles!
How to Make Marshmallow Buttercream
Marshmallows and buttercream together? So yum!
This recipe comes about as a lead up to a fabulous cake . . . this recipe, plus the one for marshmallow fluff together equal a fabulous SURPRISE inside cake. We will have the great, fabulous, so adorable, wonderful cake ready to be released on Saturday morning. Here’s a hint: there are marshmallows involved.
I think that this icing would be delicious on a S’mores cupcake (which I’m definitely going to make now that I’ve thought of it!) You could scorch the top of and make it TOASTED marshmallow buttercream! Oh my god, I’m dying!
There is definitely a lot of butter in this recipe, which obviously means it’s going to taste great and be horrible for your waistline, but it makes a smooth and creamy buttercream.
I must know . . . how would YOU use this buttercream?
How to Make Fondant: Marshmallow Fondant Recipe
Fondant? That’s the stuff you peel off a wedding cake, right? It’s that white, hard stuff that covers up the cake that doesn’t taste very good?
Before I first started decorating cakes, I really had no idea about what fondant was. I had heard Cake Boss talk about it, except he called it “fon-dawnt” (which has always annoyed me immensely!), and I knew that if I was going to be a wedding cake decorator, I would have to grow to love it, and I would have to find a brand that didn’t have a chalky, chemically taste to it.
I first worked only with Wilton fondant, but found that to be gross, to tear easily and to be better for sculpting figures. I then moved onto Satin Ice and found it to be tasty (as tasty as pliable sugar can be) and to cover cakes super easily. So, I never tried another brand. I know that many other brands exist, but I never felt the need to try them as I was satisfied with Satin Ice. That, and we went through fondant by the 10kg container and I didn’t have time to continue experimenting.
I had heard that you could make your own fondant, but under time restraints, I never took the time to look into it. Now, that we are not doing our cake business, and I have time, I did some research and learned how to make fondant from scratch! This version is made from marshmallows so it smells (and tastes) delicious! It also happens to be one of our most requested videos of all time! Every time we do a video involving fondant, we get asked for our own recipe. So finally . . . here it comes people . . . Enjoy!
Candy Cane Marshmallow Pops
The weather here has been down right FREEZING! I know I live in Canada, and I know it’s winter (well almost) but -30C is ridiculous! There’s a wind chill to boot as well. For the last couple of years, due to Paul’s “encouragement” I’ve tried to embrace winter. It hasn’t worked. Yet. I’m trying again this year, and decided to buy a down jacket, and adult snow pants (do you know they make those things without overalls now?!) So with my down jacket, and Ugg boots (no snowpants though . . . I’m saving those for ice fishing) we left the house yesterday and went for a walk. For 20 minutes. It was all we could handle . . . well, it was all I could handle. I’m sure Paul could have gone for much longer as I’m a wimp. My jacket kept me super warm and I enjoyed my new purchase until my face froze and my legs froze and I had those to complain about. Complaining is what I do best after all.
After our outside jaunt, I was desperate to be warmed up, and a warm cup of hot chocolate was in order. These candy cane marshmallow pops are super quick to assemble, and add delightful tastes to your warm cup of hot chocolate! They would also be delicious in a cup of coffee.
