Are you ready to PAR-TAY? These cupcakes are! They are covered in streamers, confetti and a ball drop for countdown . . . I don’t think I could have crammed more “party” onto them if I had tried.
I’ve never been to Times Square on New Years Eve, and I don’t think I’ll ever try (way too many people) despite my love for NYC, but watching the ball drop is pretty much the biggest iconic symbol of this holiday. New Years eve is one of those holidays that I have a love-hate relationship with . . well, it’s pretty much a hate/hate relationship. There is always the pressure to do something whether it is to find a party, to hold a party, to pay money for a party (ya, right!), or hide at home with the lights off and the door locked (me? never!). The overwhelming urge to be in bed by 9:30 that night usually kicks in and I’m barely able to stay awake for the 12:00 countdown. I hope you have a better attitude that I do when it comes to NYE . . and I hope you have better plans than we do! If you do, make sure you brag about them in the comment section as I’d love to hear about them and live vicariously. I think if we lived in a bigger city, we might have more to do, but that is not the case right, now so I’ll be on the couch.
Ingredients:
cupcakes
buttercream (I used vanilla, chocolate and teal)
cake pops
fondant (any colours)
gum paste
piping gel (I used Wilton)
number cutters (I used Ateco)
silver dragees (silver sprinkles)
white sanding sugar
multi-coloured confetti sprinkles
Procedure:
Prepare cupcakes, buttercream and cake pops prior to starting. Roll out gum paste and cut out ‘2014’. Set aside to dry/harden. To make the streamers, roll out fondant and cut small, thin strips. Wrap strips around a round utensil or fondant tool to form a coil. You can either leave them on the tool, or work them gently off. Allow to harden. Once numbers are harden, brush on a small amount of piping gel and cover with sanding sugar. Next, cover cake pops with piping gel and dip into sanding sugar to coat. Place a small dollop of piping gel on one dragee and place on the top of the cake pop. Set aside. Cover cupcake with buttercream, and insert cake pop stick into the center of the cupcake. Arrange ‘2014’ at the front of the cupcake to display it. Cover cupcake with sprinkles and streamers. Add more dragees if desired.
These cupcakes would be really cute covered with “countdown” numbers too! I also think that they would be fabulous for a birthday party! You could change the 2014 to the birthday number and decorate with the streamers and confetti the same way. I’m just full of ideas today.
Happy New Years!
Hi jenn, I feel the same way about New Years Eve. It is also my birthday that day and growing up friends were always away so my birthday parties would always be earlier in December. I also love New York City And have never been but have promised myself to go to watch the ball drop for my 40th birthday. Yes a present to myself. Down side is that’s 8yrs away. Can’t wait!!!
Love watching all your vids, keep it up 🙂 from little old New Zealand.
Hi! Thanks for commenting! I love hearing from people reading the blog…my birthday is New Years Day, so I totally know about having a birthday on a holiday…it sucked as a kid! Now, I really couldn’t care less. Happy early birthday!
