Despicable Me Cupcakes / Minion Cupcakes

September 14, 2013 by Jenn

These little Minion guys are super popular and seem to be around everything!  I’ve seen them a couple of times in Kindergarten so far too, so I know they’re making their way through everything.  I can’t claim to have watched the “new” movie, but I did watch the first one on a field trip sleepover last June.  When you don’t have kids of your own, you have to rely on the moments you have with your borrowed children to watch kid movies!

We’ve been asked for Despicable Me cupcakes for a while . . . and asked . . . and asked, so I hope you all have enjoyed this tutorial, and if you haven’t seen it yet, learn how to make these cute minion cupcakes.

Items used to make Minion Cupcakes/Despicable Me Cupcakes:
• cupcakes (your choice of flavour)
• brown, black, yellow and white fondant
• rolling pin
• fondant cutter
• 2 small paint brushes
• back gel paste
• silver airbrush color
• 2″ round cutter
• Wilton 4b and 12 tips
• white buttercream (buttercream video: http://youtu.be/rjqOTM5icOE)

To make the cupcakes, I started with the yellow round face portion.  To do this, I rolled and cut out a circle of fondant and then set it aside to dry/harden.  While that was happening, I cut out the goggles for the eyes from white fondant/gum paste, and then painted it silver with the airbrush color.  I let those dry as the paint will smear.  When the goggles had dried, I applied a small amount of water to the back of them and then positioned the goggles onto small, flat white rounded fondant, which acted as the white of the eyes.  For the pupils and the eye, cut out a small round piece of brown, and a smaller piece of black for the finished eyes.  Once the goggle/eye is finished, apply a small amount of water to the back, and apply it to the yellow face round portion.  After the goggles are in place, next apply the black band of the goggles, add small pieces of black fondant for hair, and using a paint brush and black gel paste, apply a mouth.

Allow your Minion cupcake topper to dry before adding the buttercream to the cupcakes.

    Hi Jenn!
First: I love your you tube channel! You’re awesome!
Second: Please let me know how to store cupcakes with buttercream and fondant? I need to make some of it in a night before I’ll serve it but I don’t want to mess things up doing something wrong…
