Snowman Push Pops

December 20, 2013 by Jenn

I’m annoyed.  Our blog was “hacked” or a “bot” got it or something else annoyingly cyber and my post where I wrote really witty and insightful things about these snowman push pops was lost.   Now what am I supposed to say?  These snowman cake pops are . . . cute . . . easy . . . fun to do with kids . . .  and those other kinds of description words that teachers tell you never to use when writing.   Since my inspiration is all tapped out, make sure you teach your children NOT to be hackers.  It’s frustrating when you’re trying to make a living online.

Complaining over.

I’m going to make these push pops again so I can be happy.   They really are ADORABLE!  And simple!  See what I did there?

Melted Snowman Smores Cookies

December 13, 2013 by Jenn

The melted snowman cookie and cupcake has been making it’s rounds around the internet for quite awhile now.  Being that it is such a cute idea, I knew I had to do it, but I wanted to make sure that I had my own spin on it.  So instead of simply making a melted snowman, I thought that a SMORES version of it would be fabulous!  It may not be summer, but nothing goes better with warm gooey marshmallows than chocolate!

Hot Chocolate Push Pops

December 11, 2013 by Jenn

Continuing on here with our Hot Chocolate theme of late, I’ve made a tutorial on hot chocolate push pops!  I adore push pops.  If I had kids, this would be the only way to serve desserts.  It would totally save the mess of cupcakes smeared all over faces, and tables, and clothing.  Or maybe I’m just imaging I would have prim and proper children who would daintily nibble at the push pop.   Hmmm, kids are sounding better and better!  They’d be like the Downton Abbey babies…but without the nannies, or servants, or castle.

To make these Hot Chocolate Push Pops you will need a batch (or two depending on how many pops you want to make).  If you haven’t tried my homemade brownie recipe, make sure you do!  It’s so good . . . but a box mix will work just fine too if you don’t have time for scratch.

These push pops are very simple to assemble.  The only challenging part is cutting the brownie with the cookie cutter!  I had indents on my palm, but after a couple pushes, I smartened up and used a knife (I was smart enough to show that in the video).

Candy Cane Marshmallow Pops

December 9, 2013 by Jenn

The weather here has been down right FREEZING!  I know I live in Canada, and I know it’s winter (well almost) but -30C is ridiculous!  There’s a wind chill to boot as well.  For the last couple of years, due to Paul’s “encouragement” I’ve tried to embrace winter.  It hasn’t worked.  Yet.  I’m trying again this year, and decided to buy a down jacket, and adult snow pants (do you know they make those things without overalls now?!)  So with my down jacket, and Ugg boots (no snowpants though . . . I’m saving those for ice fishing) we left the house yesterday and went for a walk.  For 20 minutes.  It was all we could handle . . . well, it was all I could handle.  I’m sure Paul could have gone for much longer as I’m a wimp.  My jacket kept me super warm and I enjoyed my new purchase until my face froze and my legs froze and I had those to complain about.  Complaining is what I do best after all.

After our outside jaunt, I was desperate to be warmed up, and a warm cup of hot chocolate was in order.  These candy cane marshmallow pops are super quick to assemble, and add delightful tastes to your warm cup of hot chocolate!  They would also be delicious in a cup of coffee.

Christmas Tree Cupcakes

December 6, 2013 by Jenn

Does anyone else hate having a Christmas tree?  I’m not being a Grinch here, I’m pretty much just being lazy.  Every year Paul and I go hunting for our own Christmas tree, as well as one for my parents, way out in the bush somewhere.  Having never done this as a child (other than going down to the local grocery store parking lot) it is a tradition that I look forward to every year (even though I don’t like putting up the tree anymore).  I think the reason that I don’t like putting up the tree is because I don’t like taking it down.  When I was younger and living at home with my parents, every year I would pull all of the boxes out and decorate the house with such excitement- and then I would leave the mess for my mom to put away after the holiday.  Since Paul and I have lived together we have had a tree twice but in the recent years, we’ve only gone out looking for my parents.  I just can’t get over putting all the ornaments away and taking the tree down!  It’s pathetic.

So instead up putting up a tree in my house, I’ll happily put up a tree on a cupcake!  This is a different twist on how to make a Christmas tree cupcake, rather than just piping a huge pile of buttercream on top (not that I don’t love that variation) but this one is more for looks!

Evaporated Milk Substitute

December 5, 2013 by Jenn

A lot of our pie recipes that we featured this fall required the use of evaporated milk.  I received quite a few questions about where to find it and what could be used instead of it.  This is a short-cut way to make your own evaporated milk, so hopefully it helps those of you who don’t have it easily available in grocery stores like we do here in North America.

Peppermint Chocolate Christmas Candy: No Bake Christmas Candies

December 2, 2013 by Jenn

Learn how to make easy Christmas candy chocolates!   This is a no bake recipe, so all you need is a microwave or a double boiler to melt the chocolate.   This is a thicker version of a traditional peppermint bark so if you’re looking for a peppermint bark recipe, you can still use this, just with thinner layers of chocolate in the mould.  If you don’t have a mould, you can follow the same procedure for the chocolate using a baking tray instead.

Eggnog Gingerbread Trifle: No Bake Trifle Recipe

December 1, 2013 by Jenn

As a food YouTuber and blogger, I find myself trying to tell you how things taste when I post recipes.  It is actually very hard to do and trying recipes for taste is something that you have to do yourself.  What I like, might not be what you like (even though it should be) :).  With Christmas right around the corner, what I love for seasonal tastes are gingerbread, eggnog and sugar cookies.  So with this recipe for Eggnog Gingerbread trifle, I’m getting two of my favourites in one!  If you like either of these flavours, you’ll love this!  If you don’t like either, just make it anyway.
