Today my guest host Paityn joins me on a Backpack Baking adventure! We are hiking to a local lookout in the Canadian Rocky Mountains where we use the Bemco Backpacking oven to make three different Oreo Mug Cakes. You can make these mug cakes in the microwave, or in a regular oven at home.
Subscribe to Cupcakes and Cardio.
Exercise is not required to make these delicious mug cakes. Don’t worry! You can do these mug cakes in the comfort of your own home- either in the oven, or microwave. If you choose to bake them in the microwave, they will be slightly gooier than they will be if they’re baked in the oven. If you’ve ever done any microwave baking, you’ll be familiar with the texture of a microwaved cake. IF you are interested in getting your own Bemco Backpacking Oven, you can buy it here.

Hello,
I just found you on Pinterest and so glad I did and just in time for my daughters 13th birthday party. We made these as part of the party favor and cake celebration. We purchased each girl her own mug and made the three mug cake flavor treat bags with all the dry ingredients and closed it with twist tie, then put the 2 Oreos on top and tied with a ribbon. I made a “Thank you for celebrating with me” label with a picture of each mug cake so they knew each different kind of Oreo mug cake mix. I put all three recipes on letter size paper, printed, rolled it up and tied with ribbon and placed that in their treat bag along with their mug and each Oreo mug cake mix.
When it came time for cake and ice cream, instead of a “traditional birthday cake”, we gave the girls their thank you treat bag and they got to choose which Oreo mug cake mix they wanted to make. We baked them in the microwave, topped with a scoop of Oreo ice cream, home made whipping cream and a half of Oreo cookie. I put candles on the birthday girls mug cake and we sang Happy Birthday. The girls had a blast making them and they said it was “so good!”
Each girl went home with a pretty mug and the other two Oreo mug mix to bake at home. It was so fun, from putting together the thank you treat bags, to watching them make their Oreo mug cakes and enjoying the delicious Oreo treat.
Thank you for sharing these recipes!
Oh my gosh!!! That is a brilliant idea! Did you take pictures? I’d love to share the idea with our viewers.
Me and my cousins made the oreo mug cake. We made some mistakes by using utensils that we didn’t know how much it would hold. We did it with the regular oreos and it was pretty good. We microwaved it to 90 seconds.
