I have the best Mom!
I’m sure you think you all do, but, sorry, mine takes that title! If you have been a frequent viewer of my videos on YouTube, you will have “met” my mom before. She is such a great sport to accompany me in my videos.
When you are buying a present for the best mom in the world, the magnitude of choosing the perfect present can be very daunting, so instead of a present this year, I’m MAKING her a present. Nothing says “love” like a homemade gift. Maybe I should add a construction paper card to go with the “present”. Oh dear. Let’s just hope she still loves me after Mother’s Day this year.
Thankfully, my homemade gift is something that is totally beautiful, and I know she is going to love it.
How to Make a Cupcake Bouquet for Mother’s Day
What you will need:
– 6″ flower pot
– 5″ styrofoam ball
– Toothpicks
– 11 cupcakes
– pink buttercream
– red buttercream
– white buttercream
– green tissue paper
You can adjust the size of the bouquet to whatever you want by altering the size of the pot and styrofoam ball. You just need to make sure that the styrofoam ball will fit inside your flower pot.
The first thing you want to do is to secure the cupcakes to the styrofoam ball by inserting the tooth picks into it, and anchoring in the cupcakes. I used two toothpicks per cupcake to ensure that they would stay put. For this sized pot/ball, you can fit seven cupcakes around the bottom, and then four on the top.
After the cupcakes are secured on the ball, they are ready to be decorated. You want to decorate the cupcakes after they are on the ball, as you would risk ruining the icing on the top of the cupcake if you tried to put them on the toothpicks after they were iced. We have a couple of different tutorials in our Playlists on ways to decorate cupcakes as flowers if you need some inspiration. Obviously, I show you three different techniques in the Bouquet video too.
After the cupcakes are iced as flowers, you will want to let the buttercream crust. Buttercream (made with real butter) will “crust” as the butter hardens. You can do this by letting the bouquet sit on the counter for a while, or you can speed up the process by popping it in the fridge for about 10 minutes. You want the buttercream to have a slight crust to it in case you accidentally touch the icing when you are putting the tissue paper leaves in.
The last step is to take the green tissue paper and insert it in between any gaps the cupcakes have in between them.
I’m sure you all have wonderful Mom’s too . . . and I wish them all a Happy Mother’s Day on May 12.
Happy Baking!
Hello, you made it look so easy that i was able to pull through it. Thank you Mine was impressive, looked great!!
That’s awesome!
Beautiful! Great idea! What tip did you use to make the roses?
1M tip!
I put the tissue in after I inserted the toothpicks and cupcakes…it seemed to work out ok…after I iced the cupcakes I only had to play with the tissue a bit a little pull here and there…love the videos…thanks so much.
I make mine a little different, everything is the same minus the tissue paper. They have been a huge success and I have had to turn people away because I have so many orders and couldn’t accommodate any more people. 1 tip I’ve learned is be careful inserting the the toothpicks(they draw blood lol).
Jenn you are freaking amazing and I truly appreciate everything you do for all of us. Happy Mother’s Day
Hahaha…true!! They can be dangerous. Thanks so much for watching, I appreciate YOU!
So I made this but I ran into some troubles! When I went to put the cupcakes on they tipped the ball over and some of the cupcakes around the bottom wouldn’t stay on I had a few fall off over night even with the addition of extra toothpicks! Have you run into these troubles or any ideas how to improve them next time? All in all it turned out looking great! Also I love you tutorials!
Oh, no! That’s too bad! Try putting them onto the ball on opposite sides so they balance better next time maybe.
I think you should fill the pot with some stones to balance and there is not going to fall.
I was wondering what cupcake recipe did you use? And is buttercream the best frosting for this project. Thanks! Your video was the best I’ve seen.

I was wondering where did you buy the flower pot youve used in your video “How to make a cupcake bouquet”?
I got it at Walmart. Thanks for watching!
