Cinnamon Roll Cake in a Mug

September 10, 2013 by Jenn

This is a pretty exciting video for us . . . as it was our first one from inside the YouTube Space LA!  We were so excited to be filming inside a “real” studio while is LA.  It was so different than our beloved kitchen at home, but was oddly the same too.  I guess since we want to be able to show you all of the ingredients and steps, it’s hard to change our videos up too much!  The set kitchen is not getting too much love on YouTube.  We loved it, but our fans don’t seem to be.  One person said that they preferred the “other” set . . . to which I laughed at, as our “other” set is our home kitchen!   We love it too.

If you’re short on time, or baking for one (or two if you have the will power) this cinnamon roll cake in a mug is perfect for you!  It’s finished in under two minutes and it tastes delicious.  The thing that I have learned about mug cakes is that they are so thick and almost creamy when they’re baked.  They are to die for.  You may notice when baking the mug cake that the top will seem to be not fully cooked, but it has been in my case.  It looks raw, but when you touch it, or use a toothpick to check it, it is done.

If you have any good ideas for more mug cakes let me know and I just might make it!

How to Make a Rainbow Cake

June 24, 2013 by Jenn

This is one of my most favourite cakes that I have made to date.  I’ve seen dozens of different versions of this prior to making it, so I wanted to make sure that I put my own spin on the outside of the cake in order to set it apart from the others!  To do this, I used the “petal” technique and I hope you love it as much as I do!

How to Make a Barbie Cake / Princess Cake

June 4, 2013 by Jenn

Who doesn’t love Barbie?!?!  For a couple of minutes we can put aside all of the controversy and the thoughts of whether an anatomically correct Barbie would be as loved by today’s society as she currently is, and just enjoy the icon that is Barbie.   Whatever your opinion on Barbie, she has managed to withstand the test of time and continues to run rampent in elementary schools . . . in Cranbrook at least!  We’ve always been about 10 years behind current trends, so maybe Barbie is passe.  Oh well, I’ll add an edited note to this post in 10 years if that is the case.

Now, lets move to putting Barbie in a cake . . . and make a Barbie cake!  If you want to replace the barbie with another type of doll, change away! Any doll will work with this design.  If you do not have a doll pick, and want to put an actual Barbie in the cake (who has money to do that?!?), after baking the cake, you will need to carve out the center of the cake, wrap Barbie in syran wrap (make sure she’s clean) and follow the same decorating steps as I show you in the video.

How to Make Iron Man Cake Pops

May 30, 2013 by Jenn

I just have to ask . . . when are the girlie movies coming out?  The other day I told you about my Star Trek cupcakes (and how I’m not a Trekkie, but the love of popcorn brings me to the theatre).  As much as I love the movies, I just don’t like these comic book characters.  Honestly I struggled with the motivation for these cake pops, as I just don’t get why someone called Iron Man is popular.  But, many people don’t understand why a Louboutin is popular . . . so touche.   As I was practicing for these cake pops, which actually turned out quite cute (can I say cute in reference to Iron Man?), I looked that them at one point and realized I had put the face on upside down.  Oops.  But, don’t worry, I have the faces the right way round in the video!!  Perhaps I should have let Paul drag me to the theatre to see this movie . . . where a grown man wears a costume . . . and his chest glows. . . uh, I think I’ll stick the Star Trek.
