Fortunate Friday

December 4, 2010 by Jenn

I’m fortunate for new Uggs . . . toasty toes in this cold, winter weather 🙂

I’m fortunate, once again, for good friends who enjoy grocery shopping in the US with as much sick pleasure as I do.  I heart you G.

I’m fortunate for a Purdy’s advent calendar . . . feels just like being a kid again.

I’m fortunate that I remembered to post this on FRIDAY!

Fortunate Friday

November 28, 2010 by Jenn

Here I am again on Saturday…posting for Friday!  Apparently I get too excited for TGIF that I forget there is work to be done!

I am fortunate for the road maintenance company that finally found sand to put on the sheet of ice that is also know as a road.

I am fortunate for my boyfriend Paul and his mom’s Italian heritage.

See above sentence and add “homemade tortellini”.

I am fortunate for a healthy family (I had to get serious for one!)

Fortunate Friday

November 20, 2010 by Jenn

. . . on Saturday . . . oops . . . forgot to post yesterday.  Well, that’s not true because I thought about it on Thursday night (too early), and Friday night (too late) as I was laying in bed.  There was NO WAY I was going to get up and post once getting in my nice warm bed.  It’s been snowing like crazy for the last couple of days . . . as in snowing so much in the last four days that there is now more snow on my deck that we got all last year!

Back to Fortunate Friday (FYI, I’m so not going to say “snow”.  It looks pretty and all, but I’m sick of shovelling already . . . it is great cardio though . . . there’s one way to look at it positively!)

I’m fortunate for snow tires. (seriously . . . they make a difference!)

I’m fortunate for snow plows (or at least the one that FINALLY went down my road this morning . . . my Volkswagon is not such a good low).

I’m fortunate for a warm snuggly blanket to climb under in this cold winter weather.

I’m fortunate that I finally found all of the ingredients I need to bake a cake.  Yes, a cake. You heard me right.  I ran into a friend downtown and she requested that I make a cake for her son’s birthday!  My first “order”.  Super stoked, super nervous. It’s in the oven baking right now.  I will post pictures and the recipe for the “Best Chocolate Cake Ever” tomorrow. . . assuming I successfully complete the project.  I might have to pretend it never happened 🙂  Happy Saturday!

What I’m Reading

November 19, 2010 by Jenn

After Sarah’s Key….I’m on to something a little bit lighter.  The holocaust is a heavy subject to read about….but very important.

Onto a new-lighter book…I have read most of Nick Hornby’s other books, so hopefully this one lives up to the rest.  One of the greatest movies eva…was About a Boy…but, thinking about it, I was a teenager, so perhaps my judgment of movies was slightly …..off.

Here is a synopsis of this story….it is about teenage pregnancy, and it is told from the teenagers perspective.  That is the gist of what Wikipedia had to say!

November 13, 2010 by Jenn

I am fortunate for good friends.  Thanks for the money dropping, delicious food eating, fabulous day, G!

I am fortunate for Cold Stone Creamery…Cake Batter Ice Cream with Peanut Butter, Reece’s PB cups and Gummy bears. Mmmm.

I am fortunate that Cold Stone Creamery is only in the States.

I am fortunate  that the Canadian Dollar is at Par with the American Dollar.

I am fortunate for four day weekends…and the reason for the four day weekend…Remembrance Day…thank you Granddad for serving in WWII.

Fortunate.

What I’m Reading

November 11, 2010 by Jenn

I have just started Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosnay

Summary (from BookBrowse.com):

Paris, July 1942: Sarah, a ten year-old girl, is brutally arrested with her family by the French police in the Vel’ d’Hiv’ roundup, but not before she locks her younger brother in a cupboard in the family’s apartment, thinking that she will be back within a few hours.

Paris, May 2002: On Vel’ d’Hiv’s 60th anniversary, journalist Julia Jarmond is asked to write an article about this black day in France’s past. Through her contemporary investigation, she stumbles onto a trail of long-hidden family secrets that connect her to Sarah. Julia finds herself compelled to retrace the girl’s ordeal, from that terrible term in the Vel d’Hiv’, to the camps, and beyond. As she probes into Sarah’s past, she begins to question her own place in France, and to reevaluate her marriage and her life.

Tatiana de Rosnay offers us a brilliantly subtle, compelling portrait of France under occupation and reveals the taboos and silence that surround this painful episode.

“What I Love to Hate” Updated

November 8, 2010 by Jenn

Check it out here….can you tell from the new ones that I spent the weekend in Vancouver?

Purdy’s is risking being put into the Hate category, as they told me this weekend that the Himalayan Pink Salt Peanut Butter was “just a trial” and “won’t be back for at least a year.” O. M. G.  I guess I can say that they’re saving me from myself…at least for a year.

Peach, Apple, Cookie, Raspberry, Pumpkin

Thanks Shelby and Chelsey for the great day and night in Vancouver.  We spent Saturday night experimenting with fruit beers…and to make it relevant to this site, we had Cookie Beer!! Someone must have been thinking of me when that one was made.

This morning, feeling excellent after a full extra hour of sleep (thank you daylight savings time), we headed for a delicious, VERY Vancouver (yuppie) breakfast at Provance.  Even the name oozes yuppie.

The diners, who were clothed in a plethora (oooh, good word) of Louis Vuitton, and blinding diamond rings, knew that this was the place to be for breakfast.

French Toasted Baguette with Sautéed Raspberries, Syrup and Whipped Cream

Shelby enjoying her French Toasted Baguette....mmmmm

On recommendation, we tried the “French Toasted Baguette” with sauteed raspberries…..OH MY….DELISH.

If only it came with a Louis Vuitton bag as a side…

Fortunate Friday

November 5, 2010 by Jenn

I am fortunate for the thoughtful family of one of my students who baked me a real, fresh from the farm, pumpkin pie.  It made my week.

I am fortunate for the opportunity to work in Vancouver on an all-expenses paid weekend which starts today!
