Giant Chocolate Milk Gummy Recipe

April 14, 2016 by Jenn

Today I am showing you how to make Giant Chocolate Milk Gummy Bottles! These gummy bottles have been all the rage of late, and this is my last one that I’m going to show you how to make. I had to do this one because my friend Miki from Sugarcoder, had no idea about these bottles, so while we were in LA together a few weeks ago, I took the opportunity to school her on how to make them.

Who doesn’t love an occasional glass of chocolate milk, right? Kids love it, adults love it, and I would drink it by the liter if I could without getting a stomach ache- but I’m not getting into that right now. To get that image out of your head,  imagine you were going to be serving up some chocolate milk at a party, and you made them into bottles of gummy chocolate milk to fool your guests? How hilarious would watching the first person trying to open the bottle be? Or maybe just I would think it would be funny.

For the chocolate milk gummy bottle, I went out in the wilderness that was Los Angeles and tried to hunt down a familiar brand of chocolate milk. If you’re not aware, there are many differences between Canada and US in regards to availability of food products and brand names. I’ve whined about it a million times on this blog (**sigh** Canadian Target **sigh**). Anyway, TruMoo was in every store, and after asking my less that 5 American friends, and American based brother, TruMoo was the choice to go with.

Making gummy bottles is super simple. All you need is a liquid, and gelatine. I’ve been recently researching gelatine substitutions and agar agar works quite well, though it smells like the ocean. I won’t get into what the geletine smells like- just try not to breathe through your nose when working with it. There is actually no magic formula or number of packages to go with when it comes to making the bottle. Basically, the more you put in, the stiffer the gummy will be. If you put more than what I call for in the recipe, you will find that the gummy may be hard, which will make it harder to cut through, and eat. Once the gummy bottle is completely solidified (4-6 hours in the fridge), you’re free to grab the sharpest xacto knife you can find, and cut off the plastic bottle! For these bottles, since the wrapper went the whole way around the bottle, I decided that cutting out the main logo was the best way to go about “redecorating” it. I did try cutting a bottle with the entire wrapper on it, and with a very sharp knife you can get through the plastic. I used the xacto knife with the blade fully extended to get through both layers.

Whenever you’re working with gummies, whether they be bottles, or bears, always wrap them, or store them in an airtight container. If you don’t they’ll shrink and wrinkle. And nobody like a wrinkly gummy.

Giant Chocolate Milk Gummy Recipe

Ingredients:
-500 mL chocolate milk
-8 packages gelatine

Procedure:
1. Pour chocolate milk out of the bottle and into a bowl. Save the lid and wrapper, and wash out the inside of the bottle.
2. Heat the chocolate milk to boiling and add the gelatine and stir until dissolved.
3. Spray inside of chocolate milk bottle with non-stick spray.
4. Pour the chocolate milk and gelatine back into the bottle, and replace the lid. Put the bottle into the fridge for 4-6 hours.
5. Remove from the fridge once the bottle has solidified. Using a sharp knife, remove the plastic bottle, leaving the gummy bottle in tack.
6. Place label and lid back onto the bottle.
7. Slice and serve immediately, or keep wrapped in syran wrap in the fridge.
