If you haven’t heard of EOS, you don’t spend much time on the internet, specifically YouTube. EOS is everywhere on YouTube . . . it’s become an obsession of sorts for some people. I’ll admit, EOS were something that I had heard of, and had one in the bottom of a drawer somewhere, but I didn’t pay any attention to it until DIY EOS started springing up all over the internet. People are making giant Jello ones, cakes, and edible cookie dough versions! I knew I had to make something into an EOS, and having all of the round molds that I do, I went with chocolate, jolly rancher, sprinkles and glitter versions.
EOS Lip Balm is a rounded, almost egg shaped beauty product that stands for the Evolution of Smooth. Honestly I find it kind of awkward to apply to my lips, but who am I to argue with millions of teenage girls. Besides, if I don’t like something, it’s best to make it better, so I made it CHOCOLATE! EOS come in tons of different flavours and colors, so it was really fun to experiment with different elements to match the original’s variety.
Working with chocolate can sometimes be a bit challenging so I usually use melting wafers as they are readily available and everyone can easily work with them. When melting the wafers, place them in a microwave safe bowl, and heat them for 60 second intervals in the microwave on 50% power. After each interval, stir until all wafers are smooth. When filling your molds, place the mold onto a baking tray so that when you go to transfer it to the fridge, the chocolate doesn’t spill out of the molds.
Working with edible “non toxic” glitter is something new to me, and I was so excited to show everyone one way to use it. I have lots more glitter ideas planned for the future. I *may* have obsessively bought every color there is from Amazon. So be warned.
Edible EOS Lip Balm Chocolates Recipe
Ingredients:
- melted chocolate
- edible glitter (get it here)
- Jolly Ranchers (or hard candy)
- piping gel
- chocolate round silicone molds (get them here and here and here )
- sprinkles
- mini round paint palette (I found mine at the dollar store)
Procedure:
1. Melt chocolates in the microwave at 50% power in 60 second intervals.
2. Fill larger round molds with coloured chocolate to the top for the top and bottom of the EOS. Place in the fridge for 10 minutes to harden.
3. Coat the inside of the smaller mold with piping gel, and drop in sprinkles. Pour white melted chocolate on top of the sprinkles to fill the mold for the balm portion, and place in the fridge to harden.
4. Fill middle of paint palette with coordinating colors from the tops and bottoms of the larger molds. Allow to harden in the fridge.
5. Remove chocolates from the molds once they are all set. Use melted chocolate to attach bottom, middle and balm piece together.
6. To make the Jolly Rancher balms, place 2 Jolly Ranchers-or hard candies into the smallest mold, and melt in the oven at 375F for 10-12 minutes. Allow to cool completely before removing from the mold.
7. On the top chocolate, use a toothpick or scribe tool to etch out EOS and use a blower, or canned air to remove the excess chocolate.
8. To cover balm pieces in glitter, coat balm with piping gel and shake on glitter.
9. Store chocolate EOS in a sealed container for 1-2 weeks.
