4th of July Jello Cake

June 27, 2015 by Jenn

Every fourth of July, Americans celebrate their Independence Day.  Since we have so many American subscribers, family and friends, I love making American themed treats!

Many countries celebrate some version of Independence day, but I would have to say that the American celebration is second to none- they’re full of parties, fireworks and red, white and blue!

This Jello cake is super easy to make- if you’re patient!  Switching between the layers takes a little bit of time.  If you keep the mold in the fridge prior to starting to make the cake, it speeds up the setting of the first layer a little bit.

In this recipe, I add a cup of cold water to the red and blue layers once the gelatin has dissolved.  If you want to add additional flavour, you can replace the water with Sprite/7up or juice.  If choosing to use juice, make sure that it is the same colour as the Jello, or uncoloured.

Fourth of July Jello Cake

Ingredients:
Blue Layer

  •  2 boxes berry blue Jello
  •  1 1/2 cups boiling water
  •  2 envelopes plain gelatin
  •  1 cup water

Red Layer

  • 2 boxes raspberry, strawberry or cherry Jello
  •  1 1/2 cups boiling water
  •  2 envelopes plain gelatin
  •  1 cup water

White Layer (one layer; double for second)

  •  1 1/2 cups water
  •  6 envelopes plain gelatin
  •  1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  •  1/4 cup cream

Procedure:

  1. Prepare first white layer.  Add boiling water to gelatin in a medium sized bowl. Stir until gelatin is dissolved.   Add condensed milk and cream and mix in.  Pour into greased 8″x8″ pan and allow to set 4-6 hours.
  2. Once solid, cut out star shapes.  Place stars into greased bundt pan.
  3. Prepare blue layer by adding boiling water to gelatin and jello.  Stir until dissolved.  Add cold water.
  4.  Pour 1/2 cup of blue jello to the bundt pan, ensuring that the stars are NOT covered (they may float if you don’t).  Place in fridge to set 15-20 minutes.  Add remain blue layer once set, and return to fridge.
  5. Prepare white layer, repeating steps from before, but pouring white layer onto the blue layer once it is set.  Return to fridge.
  6.  Prepare red layer and pour on top of white layer, once it is set. Return to fridge.
  7. Allow cake to set overnight in the fridge.
  8.  To remove, gently pull the Jello from the sides of the pan and it will release.  Place plate on top of bundt pan, and flip plate and pan upside down.  Jello cake should release once upside down.
  9.  Slice and serve when desired.  The cake is best consumed within 2-3 days, and should be kept in the fridge, in a sealed container, or wrapped in plastic wrap.
