I separated five boxes of Trix for this cake idea. I can never get those hours back in my life. Thank goodness the cake turned out beautifully, or I would be drowning my sorrows in a bottomless bowl of breakfast cereal.
We only recently started getting General Mills’ Trix cereal in Canada. I scooped up four starter boxes as I knew I wanted to make something out of them. I also picked up a couple of boxes of Froot Loops (which we have in Canada . . . Tuscan Sam has permanent residency here), and on a recent trip across the border, bought Fruity Pebbles. The trifecta of fruity breakfast cereals was complete!
Now what?
I had all of the cereal and needed to figure out what to make them into, and the most obvious idea was a giant bowl of cereal!
As I already stated, the separating of the Trix is the most time consuming portion of the cake. Get a glass of wine, put on Netflix and start separating!
Breakfast Cereal Cake (Trix, Fruity Pebbles & Froot Loops Cereal)
Ingredients:
- 1 box + 1 1/2-2 cups Trix Cereal
- 1 1/2-2 cups Fruity Pebbles Cereal
- 1 1/2-2 cups Froot Loops Cereal
- Vanilla cake batter
- Vanilla buttercream
- 1 cup white chocolate (melted)
- Separate one box of Trix cereal into 6 different bowls of the different colours found in the box.
- Place each different colour of Trix into a food processor and grind until a powder.
- Preheat oven 350F.
- Separate cake batter into 6 different bowls.
- Decide on what colour you want to make your buttercream, and reserve half of that powder for it.
- Add one colour of powdered Trix to each of the batters and stir until combined.
- Place coloured cake batter into 8″ round cake pan. Bake for 22-25 minutes. Repeat for all colours. Allow to cool completely.
- Add your reserved powder to the vanilla buttercream.
- Stack cake layers in desired order, layering buttercream between each one.
- Carve cake into the shape of a bowl (tapering the sides inwards) and cover entire cake in buttercream.
- Mix together Trix, Froot Loops, and Fruity Pebbles in a medium sized bowl. Press mixture onto the sides of the cake.
- Melt white chocolate, and spoon out onto a piece of parchment, or non-stick silicone. Place additional cereal mixture into the melted chocolate and stir to coat. Shape into a round disc and let harden. Place on top of cake when hard.
- Keep refrigerated until ready to serve.
Hi Jenn. I have a few questions:
1. Will you have another recipe for Canada Day and Independence Day?
2. Can you please do a swimming pool cake for the summer?
3. Are all these recipes your creations (you came up with the ideas yourself)?
Yes, there will be new Canada day and July 4th ideas in the next couple of weeks!
Jenn, you are such an inspiration when it comes to baking. You’re very beautiful, so sweet, so unique, and very talented, and your voice is so cute. I am sure we can become the best of friends. Love, Byron.
Thanks so much Bryon! Thanks for watching 🙂
