The Jurassic Park movie scared the bejebus out of me when I was a kid. I have no idea why I am looking forward to seeing the new movie, Jurassic World, as the trailer for it looks just as scary as the Park version! Why must these people make dinosaur PARKS?? WHY!? It’s torture to sit through.
I’ll be sure to get a giant popcorn and pop and to sit through the whole movie.
I’ve always been fascinated with dinosaurs. The thought that these humongous creatures roamed the world millions of years before we did is so intense. My favourite course in university was called The Evolution of Life Through Time, and I finally got to learn, in an educated setting, about these giant creatures.
If you are also fascinated by dinosaurs, you must come and visit us in Canada to visit the Royal Tyrrell Museum. It’s about a 5 hour drive from where I live, and has full size dinosaur models in the museum. It’s SO cool!
My dad and mom used to bring my brother and I dinosaur fossil models when we were kids. No wonder we were dorks! What kind of parent brings their kids home fossil models!?!?! Teacher parents, that’s who! Kidding- I loved them, and had them all hanging from my ceiling in my bedroom.
Dinosaur Fossil (Jurassic World) Cake
Ingredients:
- 10″ chocolate cake (10 cups batter)
- chocolate buttercream
- Jurassic World Logo template
- chocolate rocks
- graham cracker and oreo crumb mixture (this is the “dirt”)
- melted white chocolate (in piping bag)
- Secure logo to baking tray, and cover with parchment paper. Trace logo with white chocolate. Set aside to harden completely. This is the “fossil”.
- Place logo (paper) on top of 10″ round chocolate cake. Using a knife, score the area around the outside to determine the “dig” area. Going to a depth of 1/2″- 1″, remove the cake from the area.
- Cover cake, except “dig” area with chocolate buttercream.
- Sprinkle “dirt” mixture and chocolate rocks on sides, and top of cake and cake board.
- Once chocolate “fossil” is set, transfer it to the “dig” area in the cake.
- Brush a small amount of additional “dirt” and rocks on and near to the fossil.
- Keep refrigerated until ready to serve. Cake is best consumed within 2-3 days.
Just wondering where you got the chocolate rocks
I get them from Bulk Barn and I’ve seen them on Amazon.
Thanks so much for this awesome idea and printable! I made it for my son this weekend. I covered the fossil with “dirt” (ground up Dunkers from trader joes) then surprised him, telling him his dinosaur dirt cake was actually a Dino “dig”! With a paintbrush he uncovered the fossil. It was so exciting and fun he absolutely loved it!
That’s awesome! It sounds so fun. I bet he enjoyed it!
so the 10 cups of batter in a 10 inch pan…how long do i bake it for…and what should I pre-heat my oven to?? I’m actually going to use Vanilla batter for this instead of chocolate…but your recipe only yields to 4 cups and is baked in 9 inch rounds. So I’m guessing the amount of time kept in the oven and the heat of the oven would be different?
Hi there Cat, you can keep the oven temperature the same, but your baking time will be longer in a larger pan. You’ll have to double or triple the recipe to get enough batter for your pan. Good luck!
