It has been two years since I first introduced Paityn to YouTube, and YouTube to Paityn.
We started off filming with her as a birthday gift from her parents, Birthday Cake Surprise, last year we filmed cute Rainbow Ice Cream Cone Cake Pops, and Macarons, and now this year I had her show me how to make one of her ideas. Paityn attends the same school that I teach at, and one day she had made these adorable hamburger cupcakes for her brother’s birthday, and as soon as she brought me one, I knew we had to film it for a video.
In the past two years, Paityn has grown and matured a tremendous amount. She’s also grown physically and no longer needs a stool hahahaha! She is one of the most talented, spunky kids I know- but she started out as a shy, quiet girl who I had to pull teeth to get to talk when we started filming. Now, I couldn’t get her to be quiet, and she took over my kitchen like she owned the place! I love this kid.
While Paityn was making these cupcakes, she used box mixes for the cupcakes and brownies. She suggests that using golden yellow cake mix is preferable over a white cake, as it looks more realistic and bun like. For the brownies, baking the mix worked best in a 9″x13″ pan in order for the brownies to be thinner than they would be if they were baked as according to the box directions.
For the french fries, I knew I had to have an idea to bring to show Paityn, so I made the french fries using pound cake and a crinkle cutter. Baking them under the broiler gives them the true fry look.
The recipe is super simple, and super fun to get creative with!
Hamburger Cupcakes and French Fries
Ingredients:
- Prepared golden cupcakes, regular and mini sized
- Prepared brownies baked in a 9″x13″ pan
- Airheads or Laffy Taffy in orange, green and red
- Prepared icing in red, green and yellow
- Sesame seeds
- Toothpicks
- Vanilla Pound Cake
- Bake cupcakes and brownies. Allow to cool fully.
- Place cupcake on it’s side and slice the top of the cupcake off. Set aside.
- For regular sized cupcakes, using a round cutter that is 2 1/4″ in diameter, cut out a round “meat patty” from the brownie. If using mini cupcakes, use a round cutter that is 1 1/2″ in diameter.
- Place the brownie on top of the bottom of the cut cupcake. Use icing to attach if needed.
- Remove Airheads from wrapper and warm in the microwave for 5 seconds to make it more pliable.
- Remove sections of green candy, and shape into leaves for “lettuce”. Using the red candy, shape round circles for “tomatoes”, and using the orange, shape square pieces for “cheese”. Add details if desired.
- Using the icing fitted with #5 Wilton tips, pipe on “ketchup”, “mustard” and “relish”.
- Place tomatoes, cheese and lettuce on top of the condiments and use the top of the cupcake to stack everything together.
- Place a toothpick through the whole “hamburger” so that it stays together, and sprinkle sesame seeds on top if desired.
- Preheat the oven on Broil.
- To make the french fries, thinly slice prepared vanilla pound cake. Using a scalloped cutter, cut french fries out of the slice of pound cake.
- Place on to a baking tray lined with parchment paper. and place under the broiler in the oven until the fries are slightly browned.
- Serve with a container of “ketchup”, by filling a cup with red icing.
- Store in a sealed container in the fridge, for 2-3 days.
Where can you get the crinckle cutter?
I got mine at the grocery store, but they’re available at any craft/baking store.
Love this! Can’t forget the mayo(tube of white icing)! Try putting the tops of the bun in oven to brown a little bit.
Awesome idea. This reminds me of my childhood! I love it. Thank you for posting this.
Those look great!!! You finally made a recipe I requested.
And Paityn has grown since the last video with her. I remember being Paityn’s age!!!
🙂
Thanks so much! I’m glad you liked the video!
