A cronut is a deep fried croissant, shape and topped like a donut, that is becoming very popular. In this video we show you an easy cronut recipe you can make in your own home. Yes, I totally cheat by using pre-made Pillsbury dough, but come on!!! All that waiting for dough to rise over and over . . . I’ll add it to my Baking Bucket List.
Cronut Recipe:
• Croissant/Cressent Dough (Pillsbury Crescent Rolls)
• Vegetable Oil
• Chocolate Ganache (Our recipe: http://youtu.be/UFW59OLLoDc)
• 1/2 cup icing sugar
• vanilla pudding
• 2 teaspoons milk
• Sprinkles
• Flour
Items used in the video:
• Rolling Pin
• Large round cookie cutter
• Small round cookie cutter
• Large pot
• Skimmer or slotted spoon
• Oil thermometer
• Wilton Tip 230 “Bismark Tip” and piping bag
Procedure:
You will need to preheat your oil to 350F. Your first step is to patch up the perforated cut marks that the dough has. Once you have done this by pinching the dough back together, you will need to roll it out flat. Fold the dough in half, in half again, and in half at least once more. You should have a multi layered square piece of dough. Using the large cutter, cut out the donut. Using the small cutter, cut out the middle. Carefully place the donut into the hot oil and fry on the first side for 2-4 minutes. Flip over and cook on the other side. When fully cooked, remove with a skimmer and place onto paper towel to cool. Once cool you can insert a filling (I used vanilla pudding) by filling a piping bag and inserting it into the sides of the cronut. The final step is to dip the cronut in the ganache and top with sprinkles if desired.
Happy Baking!
Since they are made from croissant dough and croissants are made in the oven, cant you pop these in the oven instead of frying them?
Thanks!
I didn’t try that when I was making them, so I can’t say. The idea seems to make sense though….if you try it and it works, let me know.
