This video is an older one (cue laughing at me) but it’s still a great technique to learn if you’re wanting to create multi-coloured objects. For this video, I show you how to use what is called a “marbling” effect for making fall/autumn coloured leaves. Learning this is perfect for any of the upcoming cake or cupcake projects you might have on the go for fall themes.
To marble fondant, you need fondant of two or more different colours. Mix the colours together a slightly to create a slightly marbled affect, and mix them more if you want an increase of the colour blend. Be careful not to mix too much or you will end up with only one colour.
After you have combined your coloured fondant to your desired colour(s), you will need to roll it out, and use leaf cutters to cut them into different shapes. I love using the maple leaf cutter as it’s perfect for Canada!
Adding the final touches to the leaves can be made with fondant tools, or even toothpicks. Trace the lines/veins of the leaves (or where they would be) in order to have a more realist appearance. If you are able to dry them in a round or tubular shape, the realism will be more so.
Happy Baking!
