It’s the Superbowl this weekend and we are celebrating New Orleans Saints style. Yes, I’m aware of the fact that New Orleans is NOT in the Superbowl, but I figured it was a fitting post for a football fueled week.
I don’t claim to know ANYTHING about football, especially the NFL. I used to watch the CFL (which is the Canadian Football League for you non-Canadians reading this), but this was mostly because our family had one TV and I had a brother and father who loved to watch it!
I know TWO facts about professional football: the CFL is more of a passing game, while the NFL is more of a rushing game, and large, sweaty mean wear super tight tights…often white in colour!
To make this cake, we used our edible ink printer. Having an edible printer in our caking arsenal is something that comes in extremely handy when getting last minute orders . . . which is what this open happened to be. It makes us incredibly pleased to be able to send a customer away happy . . . and it makes ME pleased to not have to fight with fondant until the wee hours of the morning 🙂
The cake itself is a lemon cake, filled with fresh raspberries. It is covered in vanilla buttercream, and the piping is done with black buttercream. I used Wilton’s Tip 18 to pipe the borders, and the fleur de lis. There is one fleur de lis on all four sides of the cake. I really like how they tied in the logo of the team.
Keeping our edible ink printer in tip top shape takes a lot of work. We find that running the printer on a regular basis helps with proper maintenance and produces a higher quality image.
Full Disclosure: I thought that the Saints were in the Superbowl this weekend. Ooops. I told you I had no idea what I was talking about when it came to football! After pretending like I knew all along has been weighing on me throughout this post . . . bahaha!
Are YOU a football fan?

I would LOOOOVE to have an edible printer! Jealous!
