Time for reading? Who has that?
If you count five minutes of reading when I get to bed before my eye lids shut, then I do!
This book has kept me interested right from the start, and despite the limited amount of time (um, ZERO) that I have to sink into an easy chair, curl up and read, I’m still enjoying getting through it bit by bit, in bed . . . challenging my eyelids to focus and stay open.
When you’re faced with this kind of a situation (an extreme lack of time for relaxing enjoyment), a good, quality book is the only thing that will keep you coming back for more. Many books have laid on my bedside table, unfinished, and covered with dust as they just didn’t keep my attention between times when I was able to pick it up.
On a recent trip to Vancouver, having finished my previous book, I was in the market for a new one. I was at a large bookstore chain, trying to remember the name of a book that had been suggested to me by a friend this summer, and the customer service representative recommended this one . . . and it was the book from the summer! Two random recommendations had to make it good!
The Forgotten Garden
By Kate Morton
It is the first book in a series of three, and it a dramatic “literary” mystery that is told from the perspectives of a number of generations. Jumping between time periods is easy to follow along with and the characters are a family of women, who are attempting in each of their time periods, to trace back Nell’s parentage. Nell is presented as the Grandmother, and oldest of the generations, and it was her, who was discovered at the age of four alone, on a dock in Australia. She was quickly taken in by an adoptive couple and life continued on from there. The book unravels the mystery regarding who Nell really was and where she had come from.
The story flows easily, is easy to pick up again from when you last put it down, and has enough twists and turns to keep you wanting to continue reading.
I am definitely looking forward to the next two books in this series. I don’t dare read the back cover of any of them until I’m completely finished the book before!
Hey there,
I know this isn’t really relevant to your post here, but I was just on your youtube channel and was watching your videos on the Kitchenaid stand mixers that you have. I am planning on getting my mom one for Christmas as she does enjoy to bake and she also usually ends up getting volunteered as the one to cook all of the holiday meals. She has wanted one for awhile now but hasn’t gotten the chance so far. There are so many models and I find it quite overwhelming. She wants a silver one to match her appliances and I saw your review of both the Artisan and the Pro, and I was wondering if you could tell me more about the noise level they both make. A powerful mixer is great if it doesn’t sound like a jackhammer. (I know they just released the new 7 Quart version that is supposed to be incredibly quiet as well but that one is incredibly expensive…) Thank you so much for your assistance!
Hi! I just bought my mom a white Classic for Christmas 🙂 I think after all these years serving us fantastic meals, she deserves it! I have never noticed the noise level on any of the mixers as being overly loud. If I have the TV or radio on, it does drown them out when it’s on. The Pro makes a slightly deeper sound when it’s on, and I would guess that is because it has a bigger motor?? But, like I said, I have never even noticed that they are noisy. If I do next time they’re on, I will definitely let you know! I think that you would be happy with any of them.
