Hi jenn I recently made your Ferrero rocher cupcakes and when they baked the Ferrero rocher inside was soggy, what did I do wrong? Also I felt that the buttercream was quite the wrong flavour. do you have any tips for me please?
Halayna
The ferraro goes soft, as does most anything that you put in a cake like I did with this recipe.
would it possibly work if I froze the Ferrero rocher before baking?
Give it a try and see! Good luck!
Hi Jenn, this is Melissa and Mason again… I was just wanting to ask you when you do that crumb coat on your cakes are your cakes frozen or did you just let them cool completely? I am struggling with crumb coating my cakes because first the icing seems to be a little runny plus the cake just want to fall apart. Do you have any advice for me? Love watching your videos you have taught me so much thank you! 🙂
Hi there..they have to be cooled completely, then I crumb coat, then I freeze. You can freeze before the crumb coat though…you might find that easier. Hope that helps!
Is whipping cream the same as heavy cream? Also you mentioned in a video how when you’re using a icing bag that your hands are always hot… Mine are the same way all the time! How can I prevent my icing from getting runny because of my hands being at a high temperature?
Yes, whipping cream and heavy cream are essentially the same thing. Heavy cream has a bit more fat, but they will both work in the same way for this recipe. I have to put my bag down, put it in the fridge when the icing gets too soft. Good luck!
Do you have a recipe for a diabetic friendly cake batter?
No, sorry I don’t.
hi thank you for all you ideas and everithing thank you so much I looking a recipe of yellow cake can you help me thank you
Thanks so much for watching! I do not have a yellow cake recipe up, but I will add it to my list of viewer requests!

Jenn,
Love the videos. Im just starting getting into cake decorating. My question is…. Is it better just to buy white fondant and dye it yourself as opposed to buying already colored fondant?
Hi there…in my opinion it comes down to personal preference and time. Dying it yourself takes more time, but if you are needing a specific colour to go with a theme, you sometimes need to dye it yourself.
Hi Jen u inspire me with the chocolate lace bowl I made one for my self and it looks really nice but when I tack it out in melts really quickly I lift it for half an hour
Sounds like you may have not let it harden properly. Make sure that you keep it in a cool place and let it completely solidify.
I left it in the freezer for about whole day and it is still melting
It must be the type of chocolate that you are using.
Hello! I wanted to know if you do video request. My sons second birthday is coming up and I want to make him a particular cake since I cannot afford to buy one (with the prices I have gotten). Please let me know if you do video request, it would truly help a lot. Thank you!
Yes, you can always make video requests, but they are added to a list that is really long so it may not be done in time for your needs. Let me know what it is and I’ll add it to the list.
Hiya jenn I was wondering who records you for your vidoes on youtube and would it perhaps be Paul? I really like your channel btw 🙂
Yes, my husband does the filming and editing.
Hi Jenn I made your pink zebra cake the other day, it was ok but the pink disappeared during baking and I ended up with just a black and white cake, where did I go wrong do you think? Thanks in advance. Yvonne
Maybe you didn’t put enough pink in the batter, or not enough pink batter in the pattern….I’m not sure other than that what you may have done wrong.
hi jenn please can you make pink cupcakes or a Minnie mouse themed cupcake thank you x

Jenn – I was wondering if you might consider doing some videos on graduation type of cookie and cupcakes. I have a son graduation this year and I’m trying to get some ideas but I’m not finding any tutorials.
Please and thank you ~
Dayna
Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll add it to my list of viewer requests.
Hello. I just subscribed to your videos and I love your techniques and recipes. I wanted to ask (as I love cupcake baking and decorating myself) when using the 1M tip for a swirl why do you do a little cone in the middle? I just start piping the swirl and it turns out the same. I was just curious. I do love your recipes and your treats are so creative. Keep it up!
Thanks for the sub! I pipe the cone in the middle to help build the height. It just gives it a little more support and makes it more stable.
Hi Jenn!!!
I am a HUGE fan of your YouTube channel but I am not old enough to have my own channel to subscribe to you yet. I am nine and mum says I have to wait until I am 11.
I recently made your Fererro Rocher cupcakes with Nutella Buttercream and they were DELICIOUS! Everyone loved them and they hardly lasted a day! I shared them with my family, my nan and my aunty and her family.
I want to attach a photo but I can’t copy it here. Mum says I’m not old enough for Facebook yet either.
I live in Australia and so far I haven’t been able to find the Wilton brand of AmeriColored food gel. I wish we could get it here. Mum says if I keep being so addicted to baking I might be able to order it from AMAZON if they have it but the POSTAGE to Australia is very expensive.
I am turning 10 soon and am extremely addicted to zebras. Can you guess what cake mum said I can have for my birthday?? It is the pink zebra cake, however I will be having a purple zebra cake because that’s my favourite colour.
I hope I get a comment back from you, I am really excited to hear from you, I love watching your videos on YouTube.
PS I just found you on Pinterest.
Love from Emma
Hi Emma! Thanks for being a fan! I’m glad you’re enjoying the channel and blog. You can always email me the picture. jenn (at) cookiescupcakesandcardio (dot) com

Thank you for watching!
OMG I made the minion cupcakes and it took me 5 hours to make, I am literally exhausted and need a massage urgently!
Yes, decorating can be a lot of work!
LOL maybe I should try something a bit less time consuming next time 🙂
Hiya I love baking even though im a boy and I wanted to know how much buttercream to make for the rainbow cake you made on youtube.
Most of the famous chef’s and bakers are men, so keep practicing!! You’ll be famous one day 🙂 The details for the rainbow cake are in the blog post…you’ll need a lot of buttercream…probably a double recipe if not more.
thank you for keeping my spirits high 🙂 I am really grateful for your chanel as it inspires me to carry on baking. I will be sure to make your rainbow cake very soon.
Thanks to you for watching! Glad I can be of help 🙂
Hello, I really like your videos on youtube and I was just thinking… who eats all of your creations everyday? funny but true question 🙂

Please reply Jenn 🙁
I did.
oh thanks x sorry 🙂
Hello Jenn
I am a really big fan of you and your videos and I wanted to ask, how much buttercream exactly do you use for your rainbow cake? Will one batch of your frosting be enough for the outside, in between the layers and the crumb coat? If I need more or less frosting please tell me because I need to make it as perfect as yours was. Many thanks, Amelia
I don’t have an exact amount to tell you as it all depends on how thick you put it on your cake. I always just make more if I need it.
Hi Jenn,
I was wondering how much butter cream you use for the rainbow cake hat you made. How much for the outside, inbetween the layers, and the crumb coat. Please reply. Thanks
Hello Jenn,
I’m so thankful I found you on Youtube. I want to be a baker when i grow up. Every weekend I curl up with my laptop and watch you for at lest 2 hours…. I have learned so much from you….
P.S your dog is so CUTE……
Thanks so much for your dedication!! Ruby sends her love 🙂
Hi Jenn, I was wondering how much exactly of you buttercream frosting I would need to make the rainbow cake because it looks like you used more on your cake than your actual buttercream tutorial. So will I need more buttercream to make my cake just as yours was?
P.S I love your videos and I have watched the rainbow cake video at least 14 times!
Hello again Jenn could you please reply ASAP because I am making the rainbow cake in a few days and I really need to know the buttercream measurements. Thanks
Hi Jenn, I am your BIGGEST fan by far. I have been learning sooo many new things in the world of baking from your chanel and I have one question that I have been wanting to know the answer for a long time now. How much cake batter from your vanilla cake tutorial shall I use for the rainbow cake? I know you 1.5 amounts but I don’t understand how much exactly that means. I would really appreciate your reply as I am hoping to make this cake soon. Thanks for all your AMAZING tutorials x
You will need one full recipe, plus an additional half recipe. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Hello,
I might of missed it somewhere in your videos and blogs, but I was wondering where I can find the food colorings. Maybe you can post a picture of the actual product.
Thank you.
-Va Thao
I regularly use Americolor Gel Pastes in my videos. Hope that helps!
hi Jenn I was wondering if you sell the cupcake bouquet because I wanted to do something special for my sister’s wedding and I hate to see her leave, im giving a goodbye gift to her because I know this is the best thing I could find from my favourite baker please reply xx 🙂
No sorry I don’t. It would make a good present though!
Hello, I LOVE your Videos so much but there is this cake that i want to learn how to make can you please make a video of it ?????? ALL I have is a picture of it. can I send you the picture and make a video on how to make it step by step??
You can send me a picture, but I can’t guarantee that I’ll be able to fit in making it 🙁
Was wondering if you used one or two batches of your cake recipe for the rainbow cake? And I am guessing you had to use at least 2 batches of the buttercream frosting. Hoping my try at it turns out as beautiful as yours is! Thank you for the video and your advice.
Depending on how larger you want each layer to be will depend on how much batter you need. I used about 1.5 amounts of my vanilla cake batter recipe. Good luck!!

Hi jenn I was wondering if you could make me 1 rainbow cupcake in a jar and a rainbow cake from you not the bakery you work at because I have had issues before with getting peanuts in cakes I’ve ordered to have NO peanuts me and my daughter are both deathly allergic and I could never trust a bakery again. But I live near the bakery so if you could make it and meet me there that would be awesome. They are for my daughters birthday and we watched your videos on youtube and that is all she wants so PLEASE she has been through a lot this year. I just want to see the look on her face. I can not pipe for the life of me I’ve tried. I already attempted to make both already ( twice ) and failed miserably so please. I will pay you what ever just I finally can afford to give her something she really wants. Jenn I’m begging you- Avia
Hi. I love your tutorials! I was wondering if you had a tip for this.
I love combining different tastes, especially an alcohol glaze… it is summer and one of my clients has asked me to do this. This particular glaze has me stumped. I made a margarita cupcake with tequila glaze and no matter how much I thicken it (add extra powdered sugar or cornstarch, even baking powder) it still runs off the cupcake. If it’s in the fridge it stays put, but at room temperature, well it’s just not presentable even though it’s still yummy.
Do you have any tips on how to make this not runny?
Thanks
Did you try using less tequila?? It sounds like you’ve done a good job trouble shooting, and I’m not sure what else to suggest!
Hi need your advice. 🙂 I wanted to make a “Rainbow cake” for my daughter’s birthday next weekend but i wanted to use the ready to mix vanilla cake mix from the grocery as well as the vanilla frosting. Is it okay to use them? And is it okay to use cream cheese instead pf vanilla frosting?
Yes you can use box mixes. The store bought icing is not very thick, so if you’re going to be trying to pipe with it, you may have some difficulties. I have also never tried to dye store bought icing, so I don’t know how that will work out for you. Good luck!
Thanks a lot! Like how many icing you made for the rainbow cake? Will probably make everything from scratch then. Im soo in love with your rainbow cake! Hope I can make it!
I used at least 2 batches of buttercream.
I’ve done both tinting from store bought icing and box mix and it’s ok. You will still achieve the same brightness as your standard butter cake and butter cream icing, however I would suggest you use you use the color paste and not a liquid to tint your mix and the icing as it will make it more liquidy and you don’t want to compromise taste and quality. For your icing, it’s best to go to your local bulk barn (not sure if there’s one in the US but they sell bulk food) and get your butter cream icing there. Otherwise, it’s pretty easy to make butter cream icing. 5 min flat. Good luck with your daughters cake.
Hi!!can you please make a sugar free cake recipe please?I cant eat sugar but I love so much your recipes.Hope you see this!
Hi Aranza….try using a sugar sub in our recipes! They should work just fine for you. Jenn
Thank you very much!but can I use granulated splenda for the frosting?help me!kisses
Hello Jenn,
I really liked making the vanilla cake that you showed in your video. I was wondering how I could send a picture of my cake to you. This is how I made and decorated the cake: First I made the batter. But we didn’t have the right sized pan, so it is not a layer cake. After my cake was done, my sister and my mom wanted a bite out of it. It turned out to be a big bite! So there turned out to be a triangle hole. Even thought I had told my sister and my mom that they could try some of the cake, at first I did not like the triangle hole. But then I decided on a good plan. We took the cake out of the pan and put it on the cake plate. Then I frosted it a little bit. I put on a cranberry for an eye. Next I put on some large coconut flakes that look like teeth, where the triangle was cut out. This looks like a big open mouth now. Then I frosted around the outside edge, and inside the mouth. I put some Hershey’s kisses on for horns. After that I put sprinkles all over the cake, for scales. Then I used a Tootsie Roll for a nose. The finishing touch was adding a little piece of candy on top of the cranberry eye to make a pupil for the eye. (I spread a little frosting on the cranberry first, to make the candy stick.) Thank you for sharing your cake recipe. I like my cake, even though my cake didn’t turn out like your cake.
From Emilie
P.S. I used maple flavoring instead of vanilla. I used chocolate frosting from the store.
Sounds super cute! Send it to our Facebook page!! Thanks for letting me know 🙂
hello there . i was looking over your red velvet cake video on youtube . and i was wondering if i put the whole mixture in the cake case , what will be the temperature and how long will it takes ? thank you so much
If you only have one cake pan to use, divide the batter in half and cook it in two batches. You will be happy you did so. If you put it all into one pan, and the pan is not high enough, it will just spill all over the inside of your oven.
Hi…I made your vanilla/white cake for the first time ever and mine turned out really, really dry…any suggestions on why that is? Thanks!!
You may have over baked it…try it for less time next attempt.
I LOVE your aprons !!! The one in purple, the one in white, with all the cupcakes !!!
Where can I found one ? Do you sell them ?
Hugs from France !!!
Hi there! I get them made from a local lady here. I don’t know if she will ship to you, but her blog is http://cottagerosequiltshop.blogspot.ca/
Whenever I try and cook cupcakes, or cakes they always rise way too much. I put them in for the specified time at the correct temperature, but no matter what they always have a huge dome on them. I’ve tried adding less baking powder, putting them in for longer on a cool setting, putting less in the cupcakes patty pans
Could it be I’m using a fan forced oven?
Hi there…cakes are supposed to rise, so I don’t think that you are doing anything wrong. What you need to do before you decorate the cake is to “level” it. We have a video up on YouTube how to do that, so check it out and hopefully that helps you out.
PLEASE HELP! I love your videos, i watched them and built the courage to go ahead and try a basic cake. I have tried twice and the cake is coming out hard and crispy! I am baking at 350 for 35 minutes. Not sure what i am doing wrong. PLEASSE HELP!
thank you,
natalie
Hi Natalie, are you baking it for too long?? Is it cooked in the middle? You could try baking it at a lower temperature 325F or if it’s finished before 35 minutes, just take it out early. You don’t have to keep it in if it’s done early.
Hi it is cooked in the middle. I will try baking at a lower temperature.
Good luck! Sounds like it just might be in for too long. There is always a bit of “hardness” to the outside of a cake though…just keep that in mind….it shouldn’t really be crispy though.
Hello, I am new to using fondant, I am been able to create pretty much any design out of frosting so far. 🙂 However, I want to learn how to use fondant. Is it better to make my own fondant (if so do you have a good recipe) or buy already made fondant? Thanks!
Hi there! I buy all my fondant in bulk, because having a cake company I go through so much of it. I find that satin ice is best for covering cakes etc (it’s taste is best IMO) and Wilton fondant is better for sculpting etc. hope that helps!
When do u put up your YouTube videos???
Hi Grace! We don’t have a set upload day, but that is something we’re talking about doing. Right now, we try to get a least one up a week. Jenn
On your YouTube channel what days do u put up your videos????
please!!!!!!!!!! can you do a homemade twinkie video since hosstess arent selling them no more
I have a question about the ‘Homemade Vanilla Cake from Scratch’ video. I want to make a yellow cake and I did some research on what’s the difference between white, yellow, and vanilla cakes; I was wondering if I could use the vanilla recipe you and switch around for a yellow cake. And if possible what would I have to change in the recipe?
White usually is egg white’s only, and the yellow/vanilla cake include yolks….I personally think that the yellow and “vanilla” cake are similar, so I would think you could use one in place of the other.
Hi There,
LOVE your site!! do you ship to Australia???
I wish we could ship our baking…we can ship our cupcake kits and cupcake picks…. I don’t think you would want to eat any of the baked goods once they got there.
lol! i would like to purchase the cupcake pics 🙂
Diana … just send us an email to CONTACT@JJSCUSTOMCAKERY.COM and let us know which picks you want and your address and I’ll reply with the shipping costs to Australia.
I am desperately trying to find a company who has an edible paper printer who can print an image and mail it to me. By any chance, do you do that? Please and thanks.
Yes, we can! Send me an email to jenn at jjscustomcakery dot com
