{"id":6252,"date":"2015-02-14T17:04:43","date_gmt":"2015-02-14T17:04:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.com\/?p=6252"},"modified":"2015-12-09T02:59:10","modified_gmt":"2015-12-09T02:59:10","slug":"melting-candle-rainbow-cake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/?p=6252","title":{"rendered":"Melting Candle Rainbow Cake"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\u00a0This is such an amazing birthday cake idea . . . in my humble opinion!\u00a0 Sometimes when it comes to decorating cake or cupcakes, you need to make sure that you are precise and perfect, but with an idea like this one, you can be as messy, aka artistic, as you want to be!\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>I searched all over town for all of the candles that I ended up putting on this cake.\u00a0 Whatever you can find, however crazy looking, buy them and put them on this cake!\u00a0 It was tricky to find enough of the purple candles, as for some reason that colour isn&#8217;t included in some of the candle packs.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re in Canada, I found the candles I used in the video at Bulk Barn and Target (RIP).<\/div>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0ny5AmWnHMo\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<!--more--><\/div>\n<div>For this cake, besides the candles, the other aspect that you are working with, is a melted buttercream.\u00a0 It&#8217;s just as it sounds- put the buttercream in the microwave for 30 seconds, and viola, pourable buttercream!\u00a0 If you&#8217;re short on time, you can use store-bought icing, as that&#8217;s usually much thinner than buttercream anyway, so the melting time will be less.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t try that though, so you&#8217;ll have to let me know in the comments if you do.\u00a0 To achieve a true melted look, once the buttercream has thickened slightly (cooled) drip more on top of the area that you&#8217;re working in and it will stick on top of the previous layer and look like wax building on top of each layer.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>I liked the way that the black buttercream and the bright colours &#8220;popped&#8221; off of each other, but you can make the cake underneath the candles any colour you want&#8211; again, let the artistic juices flow!<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Now, to light the cake.\u00a0 Hmmm?\u00a0 Good luck, a blow torch is in order!<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>Melting Candle Rainbow Cake<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><strong>Ingredients<\/strong>:<\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>8&#8243; cake, prepared and covered in buttercream<\/li>\n<li>Assorted shapes and sizes of candles<\/li>\n<li>1\/4-1\/2 cup prepared buttercream\u00a0 in each color (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/DSC_1301.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-6276\" title=\"Melting Candle Rainbow Cake\" src=\"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/DSC_1301.jpg\" alt=\"Melting Candle Rainbow Cake\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/DSC_1301.jpg 800w, https:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/DSC_1301-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Procedure<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Prepare cake and cover in black buttercream.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Place each prepared buttercream into a small microwavable dish, and starting with one colour at a time, melt the buttercream for 30 seconds (or until the buttercream is pourable).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Using a small spoon, pour about a tablespoon of the liquid buttercream along the edge of the cake, and gently push it over the side so that it drips down. Repeat using the same colour in two other locations (roughly equal distances apart from each other).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Switch to a new colour of buttercream, and repeat steps starting with melting it, then pouring\/dripping. \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Repeat steps 2 and 3 for all colours of buttercream lining the colours up in rainbow \u201corder\u201d (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Once the initial \u201ccandle melt\u201d of colours have been applied around the cake, the buttercream remaining in the bows will have thickened slightly (if too thick to drip, microwave for a few seconds). \u00a0Using this thickened buttercream, drip more on top of the initial layer, giving more of a true melted candle wax appearance. \u00a0<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Starting with the longest\/tallest candles in the middle, place the candles in the corresponding colour area, and work the candles outwards towards the edge of the cake. \u00a0Space them evenly over the top of the cake.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">Keep cake refrigerated and remove from fridge 3-4 hours prior to serving. Cake is best consumed within 2-3 days.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/DSC_1273site.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone
