{"id":5200,"date":"2014-05-08T16:36:47","date_gmt":"2014-05-08T16:36:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.com\/?p=5200"},"modified":"2014-05-08T18:19:42","modified_gmt":"2014-05-08T18:19:42","slug":"how-to-make-a-wedding-cake-stacking-a-3-tier-wedding-cake-part-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/?p=5200","title":{"rendered":"How to Make a Wedding Cake: Stacking a 3 Tier Wedding Cake (Part 2)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Stacking cakes sometimes requires a bit of engineering.\u00a0 Imagine working for days on a beautiful wedding cake, only to have it collapse into itself due to a structural problem prior to delivery.\u00a0 Or worse yet, have it collapse on the bride and groom when they are cutting into it!!!\u00a0 These are the nightmares of cake decorators!\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Learning to stack a three tiered wedding cake is actually quite simple, and learning how to do it is integral to cake decorating.\u00a0 In my video you will see me use a total of 7 wooden support rods.\u00a0 You can use more if you are worried about your cake collapsing, but being that I&#8217;ve stacked enough cakes with this exact type of cake, I wasn&#8217;t worried and knew that I didn&#8217;t need more support.\u00a0 BUT, that being said, if this is new to you or you are using a light, fluffy cake (or a box mix) you may want to have 3-5 support rods in the bottom tier.\u00a0 Three in the middle layer should remain to be suffice.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>The rod that goes through the top tier, all the way to the bottom tier anchors the three layers of the cake together.\u00a0 This helps prevent slippage of any of the tiers, keeps the cake upright in it&#8217;s stacked position and will help with stability when transporting.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>This way of stacking can also be applied to any cake that is tiered, be it two, four or more layers. \u00a0You will just require longer rods, and many more of them! \u00a0The more tiers the cake, the more support you will want the base to have as it will be bearing more weight at the bottom. \u00a0<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FnUaF9Br5UI\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><!--more--><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>How to Stack a Three Tiered Wedding Cake<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Materials Required<\/span><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>6&#8243; double layer buttercream coated cake<\/li>\n<li>8&#8243; double layer buttercream coated cake<\/li>\n<li>10&#8243; double layer buttercream coated cake<\/li>\n<li>7 Wooden dowel rods (or plastic)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/DSC_3723blog.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-5210\" title=\"Stacking a wedding cake\" src=\"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/DSC_3723blog.jpg\" alt=\"Stacking a wedding cake\" width=\"601\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/DSC_3723blog.jpg 800w, https:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/DSC_3723blog-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 601px) 100vw, 601px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Procedure<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<ol>\n<li>Prepare 6&#8243;, 8&#8243; and 10&#8243; cakes.\u00a0 See this step in <a href=\"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/?p=5186\" target=\"_blank\">Part One<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Place three rods into the 10&#8243; cake in the shape of a triangle, about 3&#8243;-4&#8243; apart. \u00a0Make sure that the rods will be underneath the 8&#8243; cake that will be above the support rods.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Mark the rods with an edible pen, or score with a knife, just below the top of the cake. \u00a0Trim the rods using a knife, saw or sharp sears to the trim line.<\/li>\n<li>Reinsert the rods into the previous holes, and ensure that they are flush with the top of the cake. \u00a0If they are not, re-trim them.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Place the 8&#8243; cake on top of the support rods.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Place three rods into the 8&#8243; cake in the shape of a triangle, about 3&#8243;-4&#8243; apart. \u00a0Make sure that the rods will be underneath the 6&#8243; cake that will be above the support rods.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Repeat trimming process of the rods and insert them back into the holes that go through the 10&#8243; and 8&#8243; cakes.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Place the 6&#8243; on top of the support rods.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Trim one rod to fit below the surface of the top of the cake, and press down into the cake through all three layers of cakes. This will prevent the cake from moving.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Using a small amount of buttercream, patch the hole at the top of the cake and spread smooth.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>STAY TUNED FOR
