{"id":2002,"date":"2011-09-20T01:26:37","date_gmt":"2011-09-20T01:26:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.com\/?p=2002"},"modified":"2011-09-20T01:26:37","modified_gmt":"2011-09-20T01:26:37","slug":"idlewild-park-fitness-trail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/?p=2002","title":{"rendered":"Idlewild Park- Fitness Trail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Idlewild Park is an area close to home here in Cranbrook B.C. that I have been going to for years and years. \u00a0My first memory of this park was as a young child, following my dad and mom around the fitness trail.<\/p>\n<p>A what?<\/p>\n<p>Yes, if you are from Cranbrook, you might not know that there is a fitness trail that weaves around the upper part of the park! Over the years, the signage and structures have taken a bit of a hit, but there is still enough life left in the trail that I thought I would give it a go! \u00a0We spent a beautiful night exploring around the lake, and putting in a cardio session!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2004\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/DSC04137.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2004\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2004\" title=\"Idlewild Park Fitness Trail\" src=\"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/DSC04137-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/DSC04137-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/DSC04137.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2004\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">View of Baker Mountain, from the West Entrance<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The area that the lake and trail surrounds is beautiful! \u00a0While we were up there the Osprey&#8217;s were circling and diving for the fish over the lake. \u00a0There were deer in the bushes . . . and a muskrat swimming along the shore! Finally she looks like a real one!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>So I know this really talented photographer and he says that it is a great place to get pictures of wildlife in their natural habitat. \u00a0Like I said, the ospreys were circling over and over the lake, the ducks and Canadian Geese were floating around . . . and a pretty pug was running at our heels.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2022\" here and give yourself a workout around the circuit. \u00a0If I haven&#8217;t convinced you of that already, go back up and view the pictures again! \u00a0And maybe open your eyes this time.<\/p>\n<p>Once you&#8217;re up there, you can start at any point, and we chose to start our fitness trail by following the trail up from the main docks on the lake.<\/p>\n<div sizes=\"(max-width: 285px) 100vw, 285px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So as I said, the signs have seen better days, but some of them are still legible. \u00a0This one is a lunging station. \u00a0By placing one foot up on the log, assume a lunging position, and slowly lower your back knee to the ground. \u00a0Remember to protect your knees, and make sure that you leg that is up on the log is maintaining a 90 degree position. \u00a0For a challenge, I would attempt the high log, and try it with a deeper lunge.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/DSC04148_2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2009\" title=\"Idlewild Park Fitness Trail\" lateral movement activity along the log. \u00a0On the signage it suggests that you hop back and forth over the log on one foot, you could also increase the level of difficulty in this activity by jumping over top of the log with two feet.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/DSC04150_2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2011\" title=\"Idlewild Park Fitness Trail\" src=\"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/DSC04150_2-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" rail. \u00a0To make this more difficult, hold your body at the highest point for a count of 8, then slowly lower yourself back down.<\/p>\n<p><a basically get into a push up position, and pull one leg at a time up to your chest. \u00a0Group Instructors sometimes like to call this &#8220;Mountain Climbers&#8221;. \u00a0Torture!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/DSC04170_2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2018\" title=\"Idlewild Park Fitness Trail\" sizes=\"(max-width: 242px) 100vw, 242px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Um, ya . . . this station . . . not so much my forte. \u00a0I have NO upper body strength . . . and a very heavy lower body! \u00a0You&#8217;re supposed to &#8220;travel along the bars&#8221;, but um, due to my previous admittance, there wasn&#8217;t NO &#8220;travelling&#8221; happenin&#8217;!<\/p>\n<div picture!&quot;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>All in all, this is a great little workout trail. \u00a0It adds for some variety to the mundaneness that often creeps into one&#8217;s gym routine. \u00a0Being out in the fresh air is always a bonus, and of course, the scenery around this lake is amazing. \u00a0Again, if you don&#8217;t \u00a0know what I&#8217;m talking about . . . go back, AGAIN, and look, with your eyes, at the beauty.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>What do YOU do to releave the &#8220;boredom&#8221; that often creeps into the gym routine?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Happy Cardio-ing!<\/p>\n<div
