{"id":5251,"date":"2014-05-24T15:34:30","date_gmt":"2014-05-24T15:34:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.com\/?p=5251"},"modified":"2014-05-24T18:37:58","modified_gmt":"2014-05-24T18:37:58","slug":"candyland-cake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/?p=5251","title":{"rendered":"Candyland Cake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Candyland was one of my favourite games to play as a kid!\u00a0 We didn&#8217;t have it at home, but I remember playing it at lots of friends&#8217; houses and at school.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve made sure that each classroom I&#8217;ve taught in has had this game because of my fond memories of it!\u00a0 The game itself is super simple- counting to two, limited reading required (basic image recognition), it requires mostly just colour recognition and learning to wait your turn.<\/p>\n<p>There are quite a few versions of the Candyland game board, in fact, the first edition came out in 1949.\u00a0 According to Wikipedia, there are 22 different versions!\u00a0 I believe the version that I base the cake on is the 2010 version of the Candyland game board.\u00a0 The fact that it has Gloppy the Chocolate Monster is what makes me think that.\u00a0 Apparently, prior to 2010, Gloppy was the &#8220;Molasses Monster&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>I had to do a lot of candy ordering on Amazon to get all of the candy components to this cake.\u00a0 If you are making it at home, you can make do with what you&#8217;ve got on hand, or you can order the candy like I ended up having to.\u00a0 I wanted to make sure that each area was as perfect as it could be, so I went to the extra effort of ordering . . . I even sent my mom looking for peanut marshmallows when she was on vacation with my brother in Minnesota!<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gSjjIL7FSiY\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>How to make a Candyland Cake<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/DSC_4095blog.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-5258\" title=\"Candyland game\" src=\"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/DSC_4095blog.jpg\" alt=\"candyland game\" width=\"601\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/DSC_4095blog.jpg 800w, http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/DSC_4095blog-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 601px) 100vw, 601px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>2-12&#8243;x18&#8242; buttercream covered cakes<\/li>\n<li>vanilla buttercream (tips #5, #12, open star tip)<\/li>\n<li>green buttercream (grass tip, #233)<\/li>\n<li>Starburst candies (unwrapped)\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Peanut shaped marshmallows<\/li>\n<li>Peanut Butter chips<\/li>\n<li>Clear rock candy<\/li>\n<li>Red glitter sprinkles<\/li>\n<li>Snowflake sprinkles<\/li>\n<li>Round peppermints<\/li>\n<li>Mini candy canes<\/li>\n<li>Gum drops<\/li>\n<li>Lollipops<\/li>\n<li>Rainbow Twizzlers\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Peanut butter cups (mini and large)<\/li>\n<li>Chocolate chips (mini and large)\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Mini ice cream cones<\/li>\n<li>Rainbow sprinkles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/DSC_4106blog.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-5259\" title=\"Candyland board game\" src=\"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/DSC_4106blog.jpg\" alt=\"Candyland board game\" width=\"599\" height=\"399\" srcset=\"http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/DSC_4106blog.jpg 800w, http:\/\/cookiescupcakesandcardio.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/DSC_4106blog-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 599px) 100vw, 599px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Procedure<\/strong>:<\/div>\n<div>\n<ol>\n<li>Prepare 2-12&#8243;x18&#8243; cakes and cover in prepared buttercream. \u00a0Place additional buttercream into piping bags fitted with tips #5, #12 and an open star. \u00a0Using the #5 bag, pipe the path of the game board, starting from the bottom left hand corner, and zigzag five times up\/across the &#8220;board&#8221;, ending in the middle of the top of the cake. \u00a0Place Starburst candies along the path, side to side.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Place prepared green buttercream in a piping bag fitted with Wilton tip #233 (grass tip) and cover most of the top of the cake, leaving the upper right hand and lower right hand corners without the grass.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Using the piping bag fitted with tip #12, outline the pathway with the vanilla buttercream.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Rainbow Trail: cut rainbow twizzlers into 3&#8243; lengths and place between the lower path and the next one. \u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Peanut Acres: In the middle left hand, place marshmallow peanuts and peanut butter chips in the grass.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Peppermint Forest: Cover grass-less area in bottom right hand corner with peppermints and candy canes. \u00a0Cover the space between the candies with clear rock candy and sprinkle with red edible glitter.<\/li>\n<li>Gum Drop Mountains: place gum drops above Peppermint Forest, both outside and inside the pathway.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Lollipop Woods: \u00a0unwrap lollipops and place at varying heights on the inside of the path, in the upper\/mid right area.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Ice Cream Sea: cover the upper right hand corner in clear rock candy and snow flake sprinkles.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Chocolate Swamp: cover the upper left hand area with with chocolate peanut butter cups of different sizes, Hershey&#8217;s Kisses, chocolate chips.<\/li>\n<li>Candy Castle: Place a peanut butter cup inside 3 mini ice cream cones, and using piping bag with an open star tip to pipe a swirl on top of the cone. \u00a0Add rainbow chips to the icing on top of the cones. Place cones in the centre of the top of the cake, where the path ends. \u00a0Add mini gummy towers at the front of the &#8220;castle&#8221;. \u00a0Cover the entire castle area in rainbow sprinkles.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The &#8220;game board&#8221;
